Activity:

There are four different activities to choose from: 3 walking tours of the city and 1 aikido workshop.

Location:

The Arts & Architecture and Street art walking tours start and finish at the conference location (WTC Postillion). These details will forllow for the Rotterdam through the eyes of the Street Doctor walking tour. The aikido workshop is held at the conference location.

1) Rotterdam through the eyes of Street Doctor Marcel Slockers (max 10 persons, only in Dutch)

2) Arts and architecture tour by professor Lex Burdorf (max 16 persons)
Rotterdam has a beautiful skyline and is nicknamed Manhattan aan de Maas. This walking tour will guide you to some of the architectonic highlights of Rotterdam and explore the city development, partly induced by the bombardment of Rotterdam in May 1945. Join us for a 1.5 hour walk through the iconic streets of what is known as the architectural epicentre of the Netherlands,  guided by none other than our own Prof.Dr. Alex Burdorf, a proud citizen of Rotterdam.

3) Street art tour by Rewriters Rotterdam (max 20 persons)
In the centre of Rotterdam one of the most vibrant parts of the city can be found. The Witte de Withstraat doesn’t just offer a large amount of great bars, typical Rotterdam establishments like Hung Kee and innovative galleries like Showroom MAMA, TENT Rotterdam and the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, but also has more street art per square meter than you’ll soon find anywhere else. Its side streets contain work by renowned Iranian brothers ICY & SOT, and very personal work by Rotterdam’s own Tymon de Laat. At the nearby Leuvehaven, you’ll spot the boat Antwerp’s SMOK used as a canvas for his art, and in the shadow of the famous Erasmus Bridge is the wall which won Lastplak & Friends the audience award at the Dutch Street Art Awards. But there is much more to be explored and found. Join us for a 1.5 hour walk through the colourful backstreets of Rotterdam, guided by Rewriters Rotterdam.

4) Aikido workshop by professor Myriam Hunink (max 25 persons)

Ever wondered what a martial art can do for you? Aikido is a Japanese martial art. It is a gentle martial art that aims to protect both the attacker and defendant. Aikido is more than a method of defense: it trains focused attention, (self-)awareness, acceptance, compassion and connecting. It is a discovery of how your body responds to stress (symbolized by the attack) and through centering how to cope with the stress. This in turn will train your ability to embrace the uncertainty of life. Join us for a 1.5 hour workshop into the beginnings of aikido, hosted by Prof. Dr. Myriam Hunink (Erasmus MC)
