WEON 2023

Welcome to the annual conference of the Dutch Society for Epidemiology

Researchers are always struggling with uncertainty and causality. Embracing uncertainty requires to take a long, hard look at your data from every possible angle, and to come up with a statement that reflects best the findings of your study. Epidemiologist are well-known for their countless critical arguments why we can only very cautiously arrive at a particular conclusion. While such approach is essential for good science, we sometimes need to be a bit more brave. We need to accept uncertainty as inevitable in science, but uncertainty should not stand in the way of sound interpretation and guidance for society.

The organizers of WEON2023, the annual Netherlands Epidemiology congress, will fully embrace uncertainty in research as the main theme of the congress. We have invited interesting keynote speakers to reflect on uncertainty from many different angles. We expect many scientists to present their ongoing research, thereby collectively creating new insights and inspiration for each other. We have a pre-conference day with six(!) workshops, particularly aimed at PhD students and Post docs, on methods and strategies for dealing with uncertainty in research and for better understanding of causal inference in observational studies. Please note that it is also possible to only register for a pre-conference workshop.

We kindly invite you to participate in this congress. We are looking forward to an exciting WEON2023 in Rotterdam. Be there, and be part of the  research community in epidemiology in the Netherlands.
